Every little helps...
The choices we make in the supermarket can mean the difference at home between a bin full of rubbish and a bin full of potential new manufacturing materials.
When filling your trolley, think about the recycling facilities available to you. For example, if you have bottle and can banks, but no plastic recycling facilities, try and choose a pasta sauce in a glass jar instead of a plastic pot, soup in a can, rather than a plastic bottle, particularly if it’s the same stuff inside. Make sure too that you choose cardboard boxes or re-useable bags at the checkout, instead of adding to your stash of plastic carrier bags.

Bulk buying can also make a difference to the amount of rubbish we generate, so avoid the individual portion packs wherever possible, particularly as many convenience foods tend to come with two or three layers of packaging. Some shops also offer refills which are usually cheaper for you, so this is another way for you to rethink your rubbish.

We keep three separate bins at home for used cans, bottles and paper, then drop them off at the local supermarket recycling banks when we ago shopping. It's really that easy!
I'm a great believer that if everyone did a little, then it would go a long way to help the big problem of rubbish.
